After a fun-filled weekend in Vegas, we set out to see the sights and wonders of the Colorado River (the big one in the West, not the one in Texas ). Our venture began with a stop at the Hoover Dam.
After a quick stop at the dam, we were off to the Grand Canyon. This was one of the few stops on the trip that was a first for all of the Texas Batemans, Dad included. |
It wasn’t long before we had our bearings and got used to Grand Canyon Village along the South Rim. Kachina Lodge was our resting place and there were plenty of restaurants, gift shops and other areas of interest for us to check out on our first night at this amazing natural wonder. We had a great time at the Maswik Lodge pizzeria.
Of course, the main attraction of Grand Canyon National Park is the Grand Canyon and it was truly impressive. We did a 3 mile round-trip hike down into the canyon along the Bright Angel Trail that provided some outstanding views and a lot of fun along the way.

The next morning we were,as Willie says, on the road again. A drive along the south rim afforded a few other opportunities for stops, then we headed east deeper into Arizona. Along the way, I thought it would be fun for the kids to stretch their legs so we stopped at a random roadside sandstone formation – turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip so far!
